Arcgis Online for Organizations - more control when setting up user accounts

  • As an administrator, I need more control when creating new users in ArcGIS Online for organizations. I would like to be able to set the users password and add them to relevant groups before they even get the email notifyign them an account has been setup. It would be fine if the user then had to change their password right away after first login. Right now, this is all a multi step process requiring a lot of intervention on the part of the user. This is fine for a handful of users, but will be a HUGE issue when we are ready to roll this out organization wide.

I agree! It would be great to be able to add users to groups as part of the invitation process. My workflow  today is very time consuming.
Today I create a user-> user acceepts, emails me, I log on, go to the different groups and invite the same user to the different groups. And I do this one by ine user.  If it is not possible to get this as part of the invitation process an alternative would be to click on the username or select several users, and then click an "add to groups" button. Admin should then be taken to a new site with an overview of all groups where one or multiple users could be added to groups at the same time.

At the very least, would it be possible to let Organization administrators reset the passwords of Publishers/Users without being asked the security question? That would be very useful to us when log-in details get lost.

Ideally the users and groups, and even perhaps security/role settings, should be pulled from the local administrative system, e.g. LDAP, Active Directory.

We have enough trouble as it is keeping the groups up to date with staff coming and going from different branches and positions all the time. The prospect of duplicating that effort in yet another system, and inevitiably making mistakes while doing it, is an active deterrent to us using AGO as fully as we otherwise might.
