Extended support for "disconnected" smart devices

Under Consideration

  • Extended support for the iOS, WP, and Android Applications that allow the user to cache map data and determine the size of the chached data while they are in a data coverage area, or Wifi area.  This would allow the user to work in remote locations with the various smart apps, and then submit updates when they return to a coverage zone.

The current apps seem to work pretty well, as long as I have data plan coverage or am in a wifi zone.  Extended these Apps through the ability to cahce maps would increase productivity with GIS users in the field.

Would be great for us as would keep down our data costs and would certainly save us having to develop something half-baked. So would be great to see it soon!

Sounds good, have been using it in a 'connected state' and currently works well, but know I will need the 'disconnected' capability soon.  Any idea on a release date for other device apps other than iOs?

The ability to use the Smartphone App's Esri provide for iOS, Android & Windows Phone in a 'disconnected' mode is coming in a future release.

Currently, we have a few samples for iOS that allows you to cache data offline and work in a 'disconnected' mode. The code is provided and you can use the API to repurpose the App's to fit your organization. These samples can be foound here: http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=feae3db9536c414f970302ee5f5f066a and http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=37e3c621b0534c50bc240c266ad3f1ec
