Geoprocessing Toolbox For XML Workspace Document IMPORT or EXPORT

Implemented

  • In ArcInfo you have the ability to import or export to an XML Workspace Document. Although you must right click an object in order to see and use this functionality. It would nice if these tools could be built in the geoprocessing framework so that these tools could be automated. Currently, you would have to write your own custom code to do this and in my opinion if I can right click and perform a task I should be able to automate it. Please consider adding this functionality to the geoprocessing framework so we can export this functionality to a script and automate certain tasks.

The lack of this functionality leads to many an ARRRGH! moment. Please include.

I agree that commands you can right click to access should also be available as tools so they can be added to models.  Thanks for considering the XML import function and other right click functions.

I manage nightly data updates from external clients.  It would really streamline my work flow if this functionality was available in Python.

This is good.  Being in a very formal environment, having repeatable code, rather than user fat-fingering, is preferred.

Thanks so much for posting (carrierkh) and the follow through (Esri)!

I absolutely agree. You mention you have written custom code to do this, is it in Python, and could it be made into a generic script tool? Post it up on the Resource Center gallery if so!

Hello and thank you for posting your idea.

The Geoprocessing team here at Esri is actively working to deliver these tools in the ArcGIS 10.1 release. The tools will include Export XML Workspace Document and Import XML Workspace Document. The tools will be located in the Data Management toolbox within the Distributed Geodatabase toolset.

Geoprocessing Team
