Open ArcMap when SDE goes down

  • We have two SDE databases that we are linked to.  They are in two different buildings. One for the City one for the County.  When one of the SDE databases goes down then it takes forever to open an ArcMap session.  Please allow the applicationi to skip over all layer looking for that SDE database if it's down.

This is fixed in ArcGIS 10.

Odd - I never have this issue - we occasionally lose one of our SDE connections, and ArcMap opens quite quickly, so maybe this is a DB config issue

I completely agree, it seems like there should be a way for ArcMap to say after X length of time searching for a particular SDE with no success, a dialog box opens saying something to the effect of:
"ArcMap is having trouble locating one or more of the specified data sources for your map.  Click 'Proceed' to open the map without connecting to this data, click 'Wait' to continue having ArcMap search for the data source, or click 'Cancel' to stop opening this MXD."
