  •  FileGDB read/write cross-platform API for simple features that does not require ESRI license.

    This would allow multiple vendors (proprietary and open source) to integrate with FileGDB as part of their workflow.

    I know this has been on the radar for quite some time, but is anyone else interested on seeing this pushed up in priority? vote here :)

I know this does not match what your looking for tottally, but if you have SDE and use PostgreSQL you do have the ability to create an Enterprise DB that can be accessed by all systems.  By storing data in the PostGIS format it should be universally accessable.  The issue still remains about the cost of SDE though.
