Silverlight API for Mobile phones

  • There must be a Silverlight API for mobile devices.  Now considering that Windows Phone 7 support Silverlight, it would make things much easier to develop applications for the WEB and WP7 based on Silverlight.  It would also make it easy to includes Augmented Reality functionality in mobile devices.  It seems Silverlight and Augmented Reality will be a "must be" in mobile phones (cross platform - nokia Symbian supports silverlight too - only the beginning) , of course specially for WP7.

In November 2010, the ArcGIS API for Windows Phone was released and this product is built on Microsoft Silverlight.  This developer product is now called ArcGIS Runtime SDK for Windows Phone.  Here is a link for further reading.

 I couldn't agree more with WolfKaiser on the offline data collection needs.  I've heard they plan to implement offline support for the iOS API, so I really hope they do this for WP7 API as well.

It would be great to support offline backdrop maps and also offline data collection for the Win Phone Silverlight API.  Many types of mobile applications cannot be deployed in an always connected mode (over the Cell network), examples are when an inspector enters a building to collect data (utility market) or goes out of cell range - which is pretty common in rural areas.

The Silverlight-based WP7 api was demoed at the ESRI Developer Summit in March, and is already a work in progress. It will be pretty much the same api as the Silverlight API, but with tweaks specifically for the phone platform.
