Immediately after opening MXD/LYR in ArcMap or previewing MXD/LYR in ArcCatalog, ArcGIS should identify missing links and inform the user by displaying an alert message: “Sorry for inconvenience but ArcMap has found # missing links…” (with expandable list of missing layers and data sources). The report should be followed by offering possible solutions:
    • automatically resolve missing links – search the neighborhood, update sources from the best matching results automatically or manually (let the user to choose the right source)
    • manually resolve missing links – list missing layers (with former path) and allow the user to pick a new location of missing layers or workspaces,
    • delete missing layers or leave map document as is.
This functionality would greatly help the user to always stay informed and to have better control of map document’s integrity. The idea is based on Broken data links manager idea. The same functionality is provided by Adobe After Effects, Autodesk 3ds Max, Adobe InDesign, etc.

I need to know what users are accessing specific maps and data on my ArcGIS Organizational Account.  There needs to be specific analytical functionality associated with AGOL.  Otherwise, how can I guage if people are using the service?  THIS SHOULD BE BASIC BUILT IN FUNCTIONALITY.  My organization will not fund the AGOL account if you can't build this in.

Please can the "Description" capability be enabled on the ArcGIS Online Time Aware template to help explain to users (especially the public) how to use the web app....right now it just gets me web map title, and that's it.

Make FTP:// url a possible address for adding Documents from the web. Often, most-up-to-date documents are posted on internal company site, and would rather link to the document than upload and consume credits

Currently, images can only be georeferenced  with a coordinate pair for each location. for a vertical west-east section the coordinates are for either Easting-elevation or Northing -elevation.
It would be of great help to be able to 3D georeference an angled section (e.g. not in the West-East direction) but specifying the X-Y-Z coordinates for each of four corners. So that I can display this in ArcScene or other 3D viewing software.

    Thanks

Automatically removing categories of zero count,

I used to build a lyr file that contains all possible classes. It happens very often that when this *.lyr file is applied to particular layers (that have similar contents) then some of the classes have zero count.

Is there a chance to be able to automatically remove classes of zero count (such that they don’t appear on the legend)?

Also, sounds not to have the option to sort based on the count!

    Thank you

    Best

A "blank" basemap for ArcGIS Online maps.  This would be particularly useful for mapping content such as TIGER linework, or a user-provided base layer in cases where there is poor alignment with (in this case) the Streets and OpenStreetmap basemaps.

Our scientist are often outside our center (e.g. on research cruises). When leasing a concurrent license for this time they have alwas to delete the license manager entry in ArcGIS Administrator. This is because the program always checks for the license manager at startup when you a in a networked environment. This is the case even on research vessels without any internet connection.
Without deleting the license manager string in ArcGIS Administrator startup of any ArcGIS program is very very slow in this circumstances. For our scientists such workaround is not convenient. Why not make (concurrent) license leases more user friendly using an algorithm which always prefers a local license in advance of checking the network for the license manager.

The idea comes from teaching projections and transformations to so many students and not wanting them to continue to mess it up in the future. When you first add a layer to the data fram it attaches a projection coordinate to the  frame which is all well and good. However, when you add a new shapefile, or feature class, that is in a separate projection or geographic coordinate, it will allow the file to be "projected on the fly". All well and good for this, but at this point, you then have to open up the tool to change the projection from projections and transformations, or run the search and get the project tool, or define project tool. Is there a function that could be added to that first geographic coordinate WARNING pop-up that tells us that it will project the image, but "alignment and accuracy problems will occur unless there is a correct transformation between geographich coordinate systems" (Warning box). What the idea is, would be to have this same type of GUI pop-up and be able to click a toggle button to only "Project on the Fly" or "Run Projection transformation now" and be able to select from favorites. Then a separate toggle do this for all items I place in current data frame. I know this is just another way to be lazy, but projections have caused numerous problems in the past when people get part way through and then look at the data they were messing with and low and behold, the projection was never changed. Now, all the work they did has to be scrapped and changed properly through the projections and transformations or there will be alignment and accuracy errors.  Not sure if you will be able to do this, but please take it into consideration.

    Thank you,
    Justin Coryell

The management system for 10.1 should be reviewed for those of us who manage 60 services on 3 ArcServer hosts in separate data centers. I would prefer to refresh existing services using a new or archived .sd file. I don't see a way unless I use ArcMap on my desktop to refresh; that is not a solution. Please review how 10.0 allows refreshing using .msd files.

    workflow-
    • ArcMap Desktop Edit existing .mxd files and share as a new .sd such as county_xyz_2013_05_15.sd
    • Save on ArcServer D:\SD\State\County\county_xyz_2013_05_15.sd
    • Have 3 other archived .sd filed on the above folder in case the new .sd fails for some reason
    • VPN into the ArcServer and logon to Manager, refresh map using new .sd file
    • Review for completion
    • Done

Currently, the end user is not able to switch between basemaps when accessing web maps deployed via the Compare Web Maps App.  It is possible toggle the feature service data on and off but it would be nice if the user could switch between basemaps when using that app.

In ArcGIS 10.0 (ArcInfo) the Select By Location would default to Use Selected Features if the Source Layer had features selected.  In 10.1 this is no longer the default.  I'd like to suggest this default be reinstated in the next service pack

My idea for ArcPad 10 used within the Trimble GeoXM devices is to modify the two colors used for the "Proceed To Attribute Capture" arrow which resides in the COMMAND TOOL BAR. When not editing, the inactive arrow color seems to be a light blue. When editng is enabled the arrow changes color to a really light green. When in the feild performing polyline edits, normal sunlight conditions make the switch from color to color difficult for me to discern.
I wish there were a more distinctive color change.
    Many Thanks

    While using ArcScene

Because it is a 3D environment, the Pan functions as a 3D pan.
Such that the position of the viewer is  repositioned up/down and/or left/right but goes around the model. (Think of it as a satellite orbiting around the earth). Because of this, in some cases, the objects in the lower part of the model are being obscured by the ones above them. Also it functions similar to the Navigate tool.

It would be nice to also have a 2D Pan tool wherein the position of the viewer can be modified in the horizontal and/or vertical positions but moving only within a vertical plane with respect to the model. This way all the objects in the model will not obscure the others below them.

    Thanks
    -Enrie

I really like the search functionality in the Parcel Viewer template in ArcGIS Online where I can specify a layer and configure the tool to search one or more fields from that layer. I would like to see the same type of configurable search added to the Basic Viewer application. This way, I can take advantage of the tools in the Basic Viewer such as measure and print while also being able to easily find features using the app.

It is nice that ESRI has added bug searching to the resource center. An enhancement I would like to see with this, is the ability to add a bug to my Support Account, for two reasons. Bugs could be somewhat prioritized based on the number of people who have added them to a support account, and would allow me to more easily track the status of bugs that relate to me. I don't always want to take the time to contact ESRI about a bug, particularly if I have already found that it is an issue through the resource center.

The search function for services in ArcGIS Online should be more extended. You should be able to search on date, i.e. 2010 or to search for a timeperiod (1990 to 2000).

Also, the area to be searched. For example, only results which are in the AOI or specified location (Provinces, municipalities, etc., etc.)

Third, the use of wildcards will come in handy. If you don't know how something is called, you can use wildcards.

We use a ArcGIS for Organisation and the students have to search services. I think it will be good to implement this search functionality.

I would like to see an addition to the mapviewer in ArcGIS Online. Now, you can see a scalebar, which changes if you zoom in or out.

I would like to see a text scale, i.e. 1:25.000, which you can edit to zoom in or out at your level you like. Maybe in addition to this idea, an checkbox to lock this scale. It's easier to specify on which scale you'd like to operate and if you have services which are only visible at 1:5.000, you can enter this and the lock the scale.

    Thanks in advance,
