New Windows 8 based tablet devices have integrated GPS chips.  Those chips distribute location information via the new Windows Location API and not through a COM port.  I'd like to see an option added to ArcPad/Mobile that will allow them to use this as the location source.  (This is for full Windows 8 not RT)

Please create ArcPad to run on Android devices.

I do not understand why ArcPad continues to be updated for an old Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system?

Android is far superior and already has some great GIS apps such as Locus Pro and OSMAND.

Please review the features within Locus Pro and OSMAND and create those features in a ArcPad for Android.

Some very usefull features in OSMAND is the transparency slider bar (just keep it on the main screen for easy changing in the field)

Also, please use sqlitedb for tiles and create a desktop application to convert ArcMap projects to sqlitedb format for use on Android.

It would be great when features are created (say a Hydrant) that the number of the Hydrant is created & incremented automatically much the same as the Object ID field. This would be ideal in products such as ArcPad. Also, it would be great if a tick box in ArcPad Data Manager was presented so the user could choose the field to be auto incremented rather than having to create code in ArcPad Studio.

One of the most common field tasks for mobile workers is to enter some sort of inspection or activity record connected to a location.  In many cases, the locations are fairly static.  Data entry for the related inspection or activity is often fairly simple.  Simple mobile GIS tools like those presented in the standard ArcGIS for iOS and ArcGIS for Android applications provide powerful capabilities to mobile workers on their smartphones or tables.

Currently, related table functionality is supported through the iOS API and Android API.  Please add support for related tables to the standard out-of-box applications.

My idea for ArcPad 10 used within the Trimble GeoXM devices is to modify the two colors used for the "Proceed To Attribute Capture" arrow which resides in the COMMAND TOOL BAR. When not editing, the inactive arrow color seems to be a light blue. When editng is enabled the arrow changes color to a really light green. When in the feild performing polyline edits, normal sunlight conditions make the switch from color to color difficult for me to discern.
I wish there were a more distinctive color change.
    Many Thanks

Instead of the generic "Schema Lock" message in ArcGIS, how about alerting the user as to which of the possilbe hundreds of MXD, Web, or Mobile services are actually causing the lock, so that everything does not have to be shut down to remove the lock?

It would be nice to have a spell checker provided as out-of-the-box functionality in ArcMap. For example, incorporate the following script into the core software: http://arcscripts.esri.com/details.asp?dbid=12384

The ArcGIS Mobile map control and cache should support or honor the label placement settings as defined in the MXD for the mobile map service. Alternatively, there should be some mechanism specific to Mobile that allows you to control label placement in the Map control/cache.

Here is a screen shot showing the labels as placed by ArcMap, and then within the Mobile map control (note how in the Mobile map the labels are simply centered above the point - this is not the intended placement).

Comparison of Label Placement in ArcMap and ArcGIS Mobile Map Control

It would be nice in the future on the iOS app the pre-defined query (done via ArcGIS Explorer online) to a secured map service works. Right now the pre-defined query didn't work if the query map service is secured.

I have a 3rd party GIS application that adds images to a SQL Server database via a BLOB field.  I want to be able to easily access these images in their native format in the BLOB field from an ArcGIS Server based application.  Unfortunately, the ArcGIS Server REST API does not support BLOBs.  As such, the current workaround is to store the images in another format that can be read by the ArcGIS Server REST API, which results in duplication of storage.  From other ESRI forum posts, I can see that there are other 3rd party GIS applications/vendors that store data in BLOB format so I'm sure this would be useful for other developers as well.

Currently the only way to get feature changes that occur in the source GDB down to a mobile cache is to set the refreshData parameter to true when synchronizing data, in which case all of the data in the layer is replaced (Note: I have received very inconsistent information about this from ESRI in the past - many people seem to be under the impression that only the changes are brought down the client during synchronization, but based on my -- very extensive -- testing and work with Mobile, this is definintely not the case currently).  Attempting to synchronize server-side changes to a large complex base layer such as parcels down to a mobile client is essentially impossible over a low-bandwidth connection (i.e., wireless aircard), which is a very typical scenario for a mobile deployment.

It seems that Mobile synchronization was designed entirely around the use case of sychronizing data edits done in the field up to the server.  The use case of wanting to update base data in the field, with edits/updates happening on ther server, seems to have been completely overlooked.  And based on my experience with end users and clients, this is a very common use case (more common in fact, than the field edit scenario).  There are numerous posting  on the Forums over time, on this same topic - I am clearly not alone in wanting better server-to-client synchronization support in ArcGIS Mobile.

ArcGIS Mobile should support efficient and fast data synchronization (of "deltas" or changes only) in both directions (i.e., to and from the server).

It would helpful for ArcPad/ArcGIS Mobile to have a selection in GPS Preferences>Protocol for GPS Simulation. When testing custom tools, extensions, forms and even training new personnel it would allow for easy demonstration indoors if necessary. Also, to implement movement for collecting lines and polygons should be considered. Allow the up and down arrows to speed up or slow down (even stop) the cursor and the right and left arrows to control direction.

I know there is a fake GPS extension, but having this functionality built into ArcPad would be ideal.

It would be better to get the coordinate information about the feature geometry displayed when identify tool is used.  This can be simple X and Y coordinates for the point feature.  And for all other larger geometries like polyline, polygon etc, an optional show geometrical coordinates button can be used.  The user can have the option of either seeing the geometrical coordinates or not.

Add an auto-complete function for domains or "pick lists."  Large domains (with 100's or 1000's of options) can be difficult and time consuming to scroll through.  If a user could type what s/he is looking for in the domain and the software would automatically complete the field, a big step forward would be made.

When creating mobile applications, we now have the iPhone SDK, we will soon have an Android SDK, but we should also have an option to use the JavaScript API that will run on mobile browsers using HTML5.

If we would like to connect an on-premise ArcGIS Server from ArcGIS Smartphone apps, we have to make a mobile web map using the Mobile Content Directory. Making a mobile web map is not easy, because during making a mobile web map, it needs a JSON string however the specification is not exposed anywhere, and we only see a document on http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgismobile/10.0/apis/iphone/AppGuide/Maps.pdf.

According to the document, we can get a JSON string easily when we make a map in ArcGIS Online. But, this is non-sense, because users who want to use on-premise ArcGIS Server in secure network, and I believe they don't want to make a map in ArcGIS Online.

So, there are two suggestions for this issue. First, please share the specification of the JSON format for writing a mobile web map without using ArcGIS Online. Second, I think more better thing is that the Mobile Content Directory should have a capability to make a mobile web map without a JSON string. I mean the Mobile Content Directory should contain own viewer like the ArcGIS.com viewer to authoring and publishing a mobile web map.

GPS receiver more and more have accuracies in sub-foot and centimeter regions. ArcPad doesn't support these accuracies. There are a lot of cscs (country specific coordinate systems) that are grid-based (e.g. Ntv2). ArcGIS supports this transformations but ArcPad does not (except te HARN and NADCON transformations). It is not possible to implement own cscs (statement from ESRI Germany).
At the moment ArcPad can not be used with GPS receivers that are better than 1 Meter!
